Beginning band starts in 6th grade at Sherwood Middle School.

 

We give all 5th grade students a chance to try out beginning band instruments in the spring to see what instrument fits them best. After our try-out day, students and parents then decide to either find and purchase their own instrument, or rent an instrument from either a local music store or the school. 

 

Beginning band students may play flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, or trombone. One or two students may be selected to play percussion. During the spring semester some students will be encouraged to switch to oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, french horn, euphonium or tuba at the director's discretion with consent from the parents. 

 

The Beginning Band performs two concerts during the school year. One in the winter, and one in the spring.
